Obituary

Charles Henry Finch, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 19, 2024, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 78. Born on August 27, 1945, in Trenton, Michigan, Charles was a man of integrity, warmth, and exceptional handiness, whose love for his family was as profound as his love for life itself.

Charles's journey began alongside his loving parents, William and Winneford Finch, who preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Donald and Jim Finch. His life was a testament to dedication and love, beautifully illustrated by his 57-year marriage to his beloved wife, Darlene Finch. Together, they raised a family of strong values and deep connections, including their children Charles, Ronnie Finch (Lisa), and Rodney Finch (Lenise). Charles's legacy continued to flourish through his adored grandchildren, Kayla Holland (Mike), Hannah Finch (fiancé Ryan Gibson), Miranda Finch, Justin Finch (Nikki), Grant (deceased), and Collin Finch (Jordan), and his treasured great-grandchildren, Lylah Gibson, Kenna Gibson, Levi Finch, Wesley Holland, and Luca Finch.

A patriot at heart, Charles proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid. His time in the service instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. After his honorable discharge, Charles continued to embody the values of loyalty and commitment in his civilian life, touching the lives of those around him with his generous spirit.

Charles's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid golfer, he found joy in the fairways and greens, always seeking that perfect swing. His love for cars was not just a hobby but a part of his identity—collecting, working on, and talking about cars brought him immense pleasure. His grandchildren will fondly remember the countless hours he spent playing with them, imparting wisdom and laughter in equal measure. Charles also had a keen interest in family genealogy, dedicating time to unravel the threads of his ancestry, ensuring that the stories of the past would be preserved for generations to come.

The Finch family home was often filled with the sound of auctions, a pastime that Charles relished. His keen eye for value and his love for the thrill of the bid were well-known to his friends and family. It was in these moments that Charles's loving and handy nature shone brightly, as he restored and cared for his auction treasures with the same tenderness he showed to his loved ones.

Charles Henry Finch will be remembered as a man who lived his life with love at the forefront. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered, and so it shall be, as Charles's story is etched in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched.

As the sun sets on a life well-lived, we bid farewell to Charles, knowing that his legacy of love, dedication, and joy will endure. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and his memory will continue to shine brightly, guiding us through the days ahead with the same warmth and love he so freely gave.
