Obituary

Cynthia Jane Adkins, aged 62, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on October 15, 2026. Born on September 13, 1964, in Southfield, Michigan, Cynthia lived a life marked by adventure, resilience, and an unwavering love for nature and the world around her.

A free spirit at heart, Cynthia was deeply drawn to the warmth and beauty of the desert Southwest, especially Arizona, where she found solace in the sun-drenched landscapes that she cherished. Her love for warm weather and the natural world inspired her unique lifestyle; she embraced the open road and traveled extensively in a converted school bus, following the seasons and the warmth wherever they led her.

Cynthia’s radiant smile and infectious laughter were a beacon of joy to all who knew her. Her presence could light up any room, and her kindness and strength touched many lives. She had an enduring passion for animals and the outdoors, finding peace and happiness in the simplicity of nature’s embrace.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bruce and Mary Ann Moening. Cynthia is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Amanda (Caleb McFadden) Adkins, and her siblings Lisa (Philip) Solatka and Deb Balai, her niece Samantha (Matthew) Ponzurick, nephew Luke Solatka, great-nephew Russell, along with numerous friends who treasured her free-spirited nature and generous heart.

Though Cynthia’s journey has come to an end, her spirit remains alive in the memories she created and the love she shared. Her adventurous soul and joyful presence will be dearly missed but forever cherished.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Cynthia’s memory may be made to the Lung Cancer Association.

Condolences

  • Cindy was a bright colorful spot in the tan vastness of the desert where I met here. She was beautiful from the inside out and she radiated warmth and acceptance. Im especially grateful for our time traveling to Oregon together in May 2025. She will be missed by many whom she touched in her travels. My condolences to her family in Michigan and her enormous extended nomad family. Fly free my friend. Ladybug
  • Cindy was one of the first people that I met at The Lit Cactus. We had just gotten to Quartzsite. She was so welcoming. Her smile contagious. She was so much fun and so kind. She was also so giving. I took care of her cat when she went to Mexico with friends. She let me use her car. I remember thinking not just anyone lets you do that. She was not just anyone. She was very special. I had just talked with her a few days before and she told me that she had changed her mind about chemo. She was at peace. She knew God was taking care of her. I sure will miss her here but I know we will be reunited one day in heaven. Love you my beautiful friend! Brenda Duwe
