Obituary

Elaine Ann Clark, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 23, 2025, in Kalamazoo at the age of 100. Born in Lansing on October 14, 1924, Elaine lived a life marked by grace, beauty, and warmth.

Elaine possessed an extraordinary talent for gourmet cooking, which brought joy and togetherness to her family and friends. Elaine was a strikingly beautiful woman, a wonderful seamstress, and she had an artistic flair.

Known for her sharp mind and love of games, Elaine excelled at bridge, Scrabble, and all manner of card games, often delighting in friendly competition with loved ones. She was an avid golfer as well.

Preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence S. Thomas and Arthur Clark, as well as her parents, John Murray Kutt Sr. and Bertha Kutt, her brother, John Murray Kutt II, and sister, Doris Ilten, Elaine leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

She is survived by her devoted children, Debra Clark and Sharon (Richard) Astleford, and her treasured granddaughter and best friend, Tracey (Dwight) Bodnar. Elaine's vibrant spirit continues in her great-grandchildren, Charley (Ellen), Jack, and Kelly, and her great-great-grandchildren, Peter and Elias. Her memory will also be held dear by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who had the privilege of knowing her.

Elaine's presence enriched the lives of those around her, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Condolences

  • A truly wonderful lady and friend. Elaine was a long time friend of my parents and became my friend and bridge partner for many years. She was such an inspiration in so many ways. Elaine was one of a kind and I am sure she is already assuming a leadership role in Heaven's bridge community. Rest in peace, my friend. Kathy LeBlanc Kathy LeBlanc
