Obituary

Carlie Clayton Frye, lovingly known as “Hoss,” passed away peacefully at his home in Holly, Michigan, on November 1, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on January 24, 1949, in Pineville, Kentucky, Carlie lived a life filled with love, family, and hard work.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Frye and Norma Collett, his sisters, Cealia “Mag” Kilgore and Anna Faye Hoskins, as well as his step-daughter Sonya Kersey.

Carlie is survived by his devoted partner, Brenda Brown; his children, Carl Frye, Georgea “Donald” Frye-Modrzynski, and Carlie “Jessica” Frye Jr and step-daughter Dawn Brown. As well as his cherished grandchildren; Jeremy Bown, Steven Honeycutt, Katerina “Matthew” Zuniga, Joslyn Hayes, Beau Casey, Heaven Frye, Cayden Brown, Jacob Frye, Donald Modrzynski IV, Caylee Frye, and Joshua Frye. He also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and love.

Carlie’s true passion in life was his work. A skilled cement mason, he took great pride in his craft and passed it down to his sons, continuing to teach and supervise even after his retirement. He found joy in the simplicity of life and treasured every moment spent with those he loved.

Reliable, hardworking, and devoted, Carlie could often be found in the garage—either taking cars apart and fixing them with his boys or simply watching the day go by with a coffee in hand. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to those around him, and his legacy will live on through the values he instilled in his family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.

Condolences
