Rita Kay Ford, born September 3, 1951, in Wyandotte, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, in Flat Rock, Michigan, at the age of 73. Known for her warmth and generosity, Rita was a beloved member of her community, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Rita's life was filled with joy and excitement, as she pursued her many interests with enthusiasm and zeal. She found great pleasure in going antiquing, trying her luck at the casino slots, playing euchre with friends, golfing, traveling to new places, and planning memorable parties. She was an ardent fan of U of M “GO BLUE!” and Lions football.
A social butterfly, Rita was well-known by all who crossed her path. She made the best Texas sheet cake, a treat many enjoyed at her gatherings. Her membership in the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and the U.A.W. reflected her commitment to her community and her desire to be involved in its growth and success.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mendel Jr.; her siblings, Bud, Bill, and Sharon. Her legacy lives on through her surviving family: her children, Noelle Skutnick, Brad Morden, and Paul (Kim) Mendel; her cherished grandchildren, Alexis Langley, Hunter (Tony) Wilton, Jesse Hart, and Payton Hart; and her adored great-grandchildren, Charlie, Ashton, Emma, and Logan. She is also survived by her siblings, Patti, Mary, and Tim, as well as her brother-in-law, Chuck (Linda) and her sister-in-law Margie. Rita was loved by many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her.
Rita Kay Ford will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her kindness, vibrant spirit, and love for life have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to have been part of her journey.
