Frederick "Rick" Horne II, born on February 8, 1948, in Del Ray, Michigan, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 77. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Rick's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love.
Rick proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam where he bravely served for three years. His courage and sacrifice were recognized with the awarding of two Purple Hearts, a testament to his bravery and commitment.
Following his military service, Rick embarked on a distinguished career as a Tool and Die Maker for General Motors, where his precision and expertise were highly valued. He was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and unwavering work ethic, contributing significantly to the industry.
Rick had a profound love for the water and enjoyed many peaceful hours boating on the Detroit River. His passion for bowling was unparalleled; he was an amazing bowler who achieved the rare feat of bowling a perfect game of 300 points an impressive 17 times.
Rick was also a respected member of his community, actively participating in the Trenton V.F.W and the Flat Rock Elks. His camaraderie and leadership left a lasting impact on those around him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Diane and Lillian, whose memories he cherished deeply.
Rick leaves behind his loving wife, Diane Horne, who stood by his side through life's journey. He is survived by his children, Julie (Tim) Ames and Fred (Lonnie) Horne III, who carry forward his legacy of love and strength.
His grandchildren, Jordyn (Zac) Wiedyke, Haley (Matt) Miller, Abby Horne, Freddie Horne IV, Deanna Ames, Tyler (Scout) Kleinert, John (Alex) Ames, and McKayla (Branden) Fisher, will forever hold cherished memories of their grandfather's wisdom and warmth. Rick's great-grandchildren, Charlie, Seth, Maverick, Lucas, Cecilia, Reagan, Kennedy, and the eagerly anticipated Baby Wiedyke, will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's remarkable life.
Rick is also survived by his dear siblings, Cheryl (Bruce) Francis, Lorie (Sharon) Lodico, and Barb (Rick) Tipper, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Rick's life was a shining example of dedication, service, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
