Obituary

Mimi Holbird, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Woodhaven, Michigan, at the age of 74. Born on March 26, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, Mimi lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.

Mimi was a devoted homemaker who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for cooking and baking, delighting her family with her amazing pasta sauce and buttermilk fried chicken. Her homemade apple and pumpkin pies were a cherished tradition she lovingly shared with her grandchildren. A talented seamstress, Mimi spent countless hours sewing and creating beautiful blankets for Children's Hospital. Her creativity extended to making exquisite birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends, always with meticulous attention to detail.

Her Christmas tree was a testament to her eye for beauty, perfectly adorned each year. Mimi also enjoyed gardening, nurturing her plants with the same care she gave to her family. Known for her sweet nature, Mimi was selfless and loving, cherishing her family above all else. She played an active role in her grandchildren's lives, helping to raise them and participating in their activities.

Mimi had a deep love for animals and was known for her giving spirit and thoughtful nature. She embraced each moment, living life with grace and kindness. Her love for music was evident from her school days singing in the Allen Park choir to later years when she sang alongside her husband Billy as he played the guitar. Mimi was also a proud member of Sweet Adelines, a female barbershop quartet, where she shared her love of singing with others.

Mimi was preceded in death by her grandsons, Austin Tyler Dietrich and Jacob Colin Dietrich; her brother, Norman Goddard; her sisters, Judith Goddard and Kathryn Castle; and her parents, Thomas and Margaret Goddard.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Billy Holbird, Jr.; her daughter, Shannon Dietrich; her son, Billy II (Sarah) Holbird; and her cherished grandchildren, Brendan (Hannah) Holbird, Katie Dietrich, and Brooke Holbird. She also leaves behind her brothers, Tom (Joan) Goddard, Dave (Mary) Goddard, and Doug Goddard, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Mimi's life will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

Mimi Holbird will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Michigan Parkenson's Foundation.

  • I Have wrote this condolence about 4 times as My Fingers Can’t Type & I am always hitting the Delete button Before I hit send. Sorry my Fingers are Inop. For the 6 th or 7th time I’ll Start this Saying My Sister Mimi was Not only one of My Big Sisters. she was the best friend your brother could have. First off Eville Mimi and Bill gave me a home to live in with their young family so I lived with them while Shannon and Billy for babies. They along with their children took wonderful care of me during this last month as she was one of the healthiest people I knew the healthiest Goddard, I know. She was a wonderful, homemaker, seamstress, sowing pants, and anything I need done. She also is a wonderful baker who you haven’t lived until you’ve had one of Mimi‘s cakes or pies I can’t type anymore as my fingers don’t do as they’re told, and I wrote this condolence four times and I keep hitting the delete instead of send it has to do with my brain injury. I’m not the sharpest tack in the box. Mimi was the best sister could have and I thought I’d I’d get there to the Lord’s garden sooner than she as she was the healthiest person I knew of. I will keep this short, but if you wanna hear any stories about Mimi and I just ask because I can’t type anymore need me tell mom and dad. I’ll see them soon and tell the rest of the family. I love them. Say hi to Dougie and Stacey for me be with our family as we go through this terrible time. Thank you Lord for my sister Mimi and all you people up up in the garden are now pain-free so enjoy each other and stay at peace. I love you, Mimi, your brother Doug thanks for being you. Douglas A Goddard
  • She was a sweet, kind woman we are so sorry for your loss .She will be missed. Kevin and Jammie Holbird
  • I just wrote a condolence, but I’m not good with electronics and I don’t know if it went through, but I can tell you one thing that knowing Mimi and loving Mimi helps give me faith in this world. She had the biggest spirit in the littlest, tedious body with the most incredible heart ever there’s nothing that she couldn’t do, and I believe there’s nobody that she didn’t love. I would give a second chance to the greatest gift that she gave to us I believe is all of the memories. All of those memories were her gift to us and how incredibly lucky we have each and every one of those. ? I pray at this time that the Lord can follow her family with comfort and peace of mind. This all happened incredibly fast.. The world definitely needs more hearts, more soul more love more understanding just like out poor that this lady gave to her community. Thank you Jesus for your comfort at this time and your holy name I pray amen. Robin Leslie

  • So sorry for your loss. Mimi was a special person no doubt. She obviously brought joy and love to all of your lives, and to the Kehoe family too. I'm especially grateful for re-connecting with Mimi (and her brothers) last September. These events cause us to remember who we have and to hold onto them even tighter. Mimi's kindness spread through all of you and she lives on within you. I know you cry tears of sadness and sorrow today but soon you will be crying tears of joy and happiness when you think of your wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. It may take a while, but it will happen. I'm so sorry we couldn't be with you to celebrate Mimi's life. I will always remember as a special cousin. We love you Mimi. Gary and Renata

  • I will always remember my aunt's infectious laugh and her heart warming smile. Im my memories she is always laughing. The kindest woman i have ever met to this day. And shared little joys with me that i cherish to this day. Like the wonders of cold chicken for a midday snack. Ill always be greatful for the time you shared. I know there is a void that you leave but we all are better people for being in your company. I love you aunt Mimi. Thank you for loving me too. Josh Yelley
