Obituary

Barbara Ann Kalnick, born on January 16, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, transitioned to heaven on August 11, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 86. Her life was a testament to her strong Christian faith, power of love, learning, and living with joy.

Barbara's passion for teaching was evident throughout her career. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit and went on to receive her master's degree from the University of Michigan. For over two decades, she inspired countless students as she taught Latin, French, English, and ESL. Her dedication to education left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of learning from her.

Beyond the classroom, Barbara was a woman of many interests and talents. She was a Ruby Level Life Master Bridge Player, achieving national recognition by securing third place with her teammate. She assisted her husband, Larry in his magic act as “Blackgold the Magician’. Her adventurous spirit shone brightly, especially in her love for rollercoasters and amusement parks. Just last year, at the age of 85, she delighted in visiting Cedar Point with her grandchildren, embodying her belief that age is no barrier to adventure.

Barbara's life motto, "Surround yourself with beauty," was reflected in her love for the Lord, flowers, impressionist art, beaches, and, most importantly, her family. Her dynamic smile and welcoming presence brought warmth and joy to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Larry Kalnick; her son, Steven; her parents, John and Eleanore Iskra; her sister-in-law, Judy Iskra, and her nephew John Iskra. She is survived by her loving daughters, Gloria (James) Cavalier and Lorene Bouchard; her cherished grandchildren, Carl, Sarah, and Josiah; her brothers, Joseph Iskra and Donald (Miriam) Iskra; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place at Michigan Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name can be made to AG Giving (Assembly of God World Mission) to support her nephew James Iskra’s missionary journey by clicking the button to the left.

Barbara Ann Kalnick's legacy of sharing love, learning, and laughter will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful journey, and her memory will forever be cherished.
