Edith “Edie” Wiggins Kison of Westland, Michigan passed away peacefully in her sleep on March
16, 2025 at age 71. A devoted mother, cherished sibling, and loyal friend, known most for her warm heart and infectious laughter, Edie brought light and joy to everyone she met. Her laughter could light up a room, and her joy for life was contagious—whether she was dancing to her favorite song or sharing a story that made everyone smile. Her warmth and generosity made friends feel like family and family feel cherished beyond measure. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gardening was one of Edie’s passions, with a special fondness for lilies and roses. She spent countless happy hours tending to her garden, nurturing each bloom with the same care and devotion she gave to her loved ones. Even when she no longer tended a garden of her own, she found joy in sharing stories about her favorite blooms and admiring the beauty of nature wherever she found it.
Family was at the heart of everything Edie did. She adored her children and treasured every moment spent with her siblings, creating memories that will be cherished forever. She is survived by her daughter, Kali Kison of Michigan, and son, Clinton Kison of Florida. Also surviving are her siblings: Elaine Gibala, Earl Wiggins, Ruth Magreta, Sara Wiggins, and Linda Gaffey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Leland Wiggins, and siblings Dorothy Jenkins, Ralph Wiggins, Rhea Beattie, and Lucy Ingram.
Edie will be laid to rest on her birthday, Saturday, June 21, at 1:00 PM at Michigan Memorial Park, lunch to follow the service. A true Daddy’s girl, Edie’s cremains will be interred above the headstone of her beloved father, Leland. She will rest opposite her cherished sister and best friend, Rhea, who was especially close to their mother, Evelyn, and is interred above that headstone. This final resting place reflects the deep bonds of love and family that meant so much to Edie throughout her life.
Edie was one of ten children born to Evelyn and Leland Wiggins. The Wiggins siblings were a family of duos—each set either twins or born within a year of one another, matched up as lifelong companions: Elaine and Dorothy, Earl and Ralph, Ruth and Rhea, Sara and Lucy. The exception was the “mismatched” pair, Edie and Linda, separated by eight years but inseparable in spirit. Now, each set stands single, as each half of these cherished duos has passed on.
This rare and beautiful family dynamic shaped Edie’s life, surrounding her with deep bonds of love, loyalty, and shared memories. Her story is forever intertwined with those of her siblings, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Over the course of their 16 years together, Edie and her former husband, Robert, built a life marked by hard work, compassion, and service to others. Together, they launched a successful business dedicated to helping people find financial stability through advisement. Robert also managed the rental properties they acquired over the years. As partners in life and work, they did a marvelous job raising their children.
Their daughter, Kali, holds multiple business degrees and works in a leadership role in Human Resources, where she is known for her compassion, integrity, and commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace. In addition to her demanding career, Kali became Edie’s devoted primary caregiver as she faced the challenges of dementia in the final three years of her life. With unwavering dedication and patience, Kali managed her mother’s daily needs, coordinated medical care, and provided constant companionship. She created a warm, supportive home, ensuring Edie’s days were filled with laughter and love. Kali’s selfless devotion allowed Edie to live her final years with comfort and grace, deepening the special bond they shared as mother and daughter.
Their son, Clinton, is a proud father to Myla Mae—who passed away as a baby—and a man of many talents. He is a successful athlete, a gifted artist and photo designer, a skilled motorcycle mechanic, and a veteran of the war in Afghanistan.
Edie’s legacy is also carried on by her faith and her calling to share the love of Jesus Christ. Edie was an active member of her church, where she found joy in worship and fellowship, and where she inspired others with her steadfast faith.
We invite you to celebrate the life of Edie and the uniquely warm love that she so effortlessly embodied and bestowed upon all of those she came to know. Though she will be deeply missed, Edith’s spirit lives on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. May her gentle soul rest in peace, surrounded by the love she gave so generously in her lifetime.
