Obituary

Robert "Rob" Anthony Longton, age 51, of Brownstown, Michigan, passed away on August 2, 2026. Rob was born on April 5, 1975, in Wyandotte, Michigan.

Rob was a dedicated Data and Storage Administrator for General Motors Co., where his intelligence and professionalism shone through. However, it was outside of work where his true spirit flourished. A free spirit with a heart as vast as the ocean, Rob was known for his ceaseless generosity and his unique ability to bring joy and laughter to every moment. His fun-loving nature and talent for engaging conversations made him the life of any party, and his genuine interest in people left lasting impressions on all who were fortunate enough to meet him.

Music was the food for his soul, Rob found solace and joy in the melodies that accompanied his life. He was a social butterfly who never met a stranger, and his home was always open to friends and family alike. He had a green thumb, a nurturing soul, and a profound love for animals, serving as a caring father to his Fur Babies Zeus, Hailey, Bailey, and Sadie.

Rob is preceded in death by his father, Mark Longton. He leaves behind a loving family, including his mother Dora, his children Lydia (Joseph Coleman) Longton and Dominic (Taylor Evans) Longton, his siblings Renee (Randy LaVoy) Derwoed and Rochelle (Jason) Petrone, and nephews Brock and Aydin Derwoed. He is also survived by his Aunt Gloria and Uncle Mark, along with several other dear aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him deeply.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service following at 6:30 PM. His cremation will take place at "The Witness Crematory," located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

Rob's presence was a gift to everyone who knew him. In remembering Rob, we honor a man whose life was defined by kindness, warmth, and a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone. His legacy endures in the hearts of those who loved him.

  • Condolences from a long time friend of Rob’s sister, Reneé… What a beautiful story these photographs tell. A life filled with joy, adventure, laughter, and so much love. He clearly lived large, loved deeply, and never seemed to let an opportunity for adventure pass him by. His love of the water seems woven through so many of these memories. Also apparent is the love he gave and received from his family, who I imagine will carry his love and his spirit with them always. At only 51, his life was far too short, but these photographs are a beautiful reminder that it was also incredibly full. May the memories of all the places he went, adventures he shared, laughter he brought, and love he gave bring comfort in the days ahead. Rob may have left this world far too soon, but he clearly made his time here count. What a life. What a legacy. What a loss. Much love, strength and support to all that shared in Rob’s love, Cyndi S. • The world has lost an absolute gem of a bloke. From our first meeting in Korea 18 years go to our most recent discussions about a visit down under next year to see some of Australia’s “Coppers” your friendship, your laughter and zest for life was infectious and the memories will live on forever. Thanks for hosting me in back in 2019, just like extended family, showing me the new Detroit, something I will always remember. Enjoy the boating heaven. RIP good sir. Cheers big ears from Down Under. Cameron Bower
