Obituary

Ronald Charles Leggitt, 75 of Canton, MI. passed away at his home, on Saturday, May 9, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia.  Born at Wyandotte Hospital on June 13, 1950 he was the 3rd and last child born to Anna and Carl Leggitt of Taylor, Michigan.

His childhood home had train tracks in the back yard which started a lifelong love of trains. He was excited when he got a job with Chessie Railroad right out ot high school, however three months later he left when Ford Motor Company offered him a position at their new facility in Brownstown, Michigan.

During his time at Ford Ron gave up drugs and alcohol and turned his life over to God. However, he developed health issues that forced him into a medical retirement.

In his lifetime he graduated from Schoolcraft College, two seminaries, four police academies, and from the FRC/IAC Chaplain Network as a Major. He worked a Prison Ministry, was the director of an Addictions Ministry, was an Ordained Minister, and a Church Pastor.   Ron also enjoyed Facebook, where he created and monitored several sites including “I went to school in Taylor Michigan”.

Ron dedicated over a decade of his life to serving as a Police Chaplin, providing guidance and support to those in need. His commitment to his work and his community was unwavering, as he touched many lives with his compassion and kindness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Anna Leggitt, his grandsons, Christopher Nicholson, and John Nicholson; his brothers, Carl and Larry; and by his in-laws, Raymond and Jeanette Kring.

Ron leaves behind his devoted wife, Linda Leggitt, who stood by his side throughout their 38 year journey together. He is also survived by daughters Kathy (Tony) Nau, Tracy Chovanec, Angela (John) Penn, and Lisa (Michael) Marshall–Okdie.

His legacy continues through his grandchildren; Tim Chovanec, Michael Chovanec, Robert Fisher, Jeremy Fisher, Tyler Schatz, Kaled Okdie, and one great-granddaughter, Harliee Wilmot.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bro. Joe Hicks Street Ministry. Donation link is listed under Ronald's obituary photo. You may also donate to their Zelle, 313-414-8190.
