Obituary

Ruby Ethel Lanni, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 2, 2025, in Monroe, Michigan, at the age of 97. Born on November 19, 1927, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Ruby lived a life marked by dedication, love, and resilience.

Ruby worked as a nail technician, where her meticulous attention to detail and warm personality left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her work was more than just a profession; it was a testament to her commitment to bringing beauty and joy into the lives of others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bedford and Avo Brown, her brothers Luther, Marvin, Donald Brown, her sister Reva Brown, and step-brothers Skipper and Thad. Their memories were cherished by Ruby throughout her life.

Ruby’s legacy continues through her surviving family; her daughter Sandra (Alfonso) Palumbo and her son Douglas Lanni. She was a proud grandmother to Wendy Garwood, Daniel (Cheryl) Lanni, Angela (Dave) Arnold, Frank (Kellie) Palumbo, Michael (Holly) Lanni, Marilee, Bobby Jr., Robert Jr., Nathan Smith, Jennie Marie Smith, and Jessica Louise Smith. Her love extended to her ten great-grandchildren: Zachary Palumbo-Garwood, Zoe and Zara Garwood, Luke and Lina Arnold, Myla, Kayla, Brody, Elizabeth Lanni, Mila Palumbo, and Josie Lynn Smith. Each of them carries forward her spirit of kindness and strength. She also leaves behind her very close family friends: Andrea, Krisztina, Veronika, and Zoltan “Zach” Lawrence, who will all miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital – University of Michigan honoring Ruby’s lifelong dedication to nurturing and caring for other.

Ruby Ethel Lanni’s life was a testament to the power of love and perseverance. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her, reminding us of the profound impact one life can have on so many others.
