Obituary
David Elwood Myers, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on April 23, 2026 with family by his side in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the age of 84. Born on February 5, 1942, in Rockwood, Michigan, David lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and devotion to his family.
Throughout his life, David embraced many roles. Owning and operating two gas stations and a general store named “Sunshine General,” providing lawn care services and volunteer transportation for the State of Michigan, these were a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and determination. His dedication, and tireless work ethic were admired by all who knew him.
A true jack of all trades, David built two cabins in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula roughly 30 years ago-lasting tributes to his craftsmanship and love of the outdoors. His interests were as varied as they were vibrant; he had a love for vehicles, enjoyed boating, water skiing, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, gardening, and traveling. He shared his interests in everything he did with his children. One of his fondest memories was journeying from San Diego to Hawaii aboard a naval ship, an experience made possible through his son’s service in the Navy.
David’s zest for life shone through in his constant activity and his genuine joy in connecting with others. He cherished the spring and summer months, often spending time outdoors surrounded by the beauty of nature. Above all, David loved his family deeply and took immense pride in his children.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Myers; mother, Helen Wilson; brother, John Myers; and sisters, Mary Helen Myers, Neta (Don) Drinkert and Linda (Terry) Allen. David is survived by his children: Carole (Randy) Marcell, Sr., Helen (Randy) Paxton, Nathan (Becky) Anderson, David Myers, Jr., and April (Steven) Mize. He is also survived by Bettie Myers and Doris Myers, with whom he shared a continued friendship and their children, as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2:00PM. Interment will take place at Michigan Memorial Park.
David Elwood Myers, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering determination, boundless love for his family, and zest for life. He will be dearly missed by all who had a privilege of knowing him.
