Obituary
Jill Matthews of Riverview, Michigan, passed away on April 29th, 2026 surrounded by her loving children. Born to parents Patrick and Lois Ankney on December 22, 1954, Jill lived her life in the same way she left it, among family.
She could find light even in dark times, and passed down her ability to find humor in any situation to her four children. Jill loved attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events as well as spending time at her family cottage. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, listening to the Beatles, baking (especially with her grandchildren), and took pride in raising her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Lois Ankney and her husband, Richard Matthews. She is survived by her siblings Janice McDonald (Robert), Patrick Ankney (Christine), and Thomas Ankney (Deborah); her children Jenifer Vesperman (Jay), Lisa Matthews (Gregory Dusten), Neil Matthews (Laura), and Anthony Matthews (Hailey); and her grandchildren Cecilia, Samuel, Charlotte, and Vivian Vesperman, Maelyn, Henry, Zeke, Wyatt, Owen, and Eli Matthews.
All services to honor Jill will take place at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11th, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 followed by a celebration of life luncheon from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
