Obituary

Debra Lee Poole, born on May 22, 1964, in Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on July 15, 2025, in Gregory, Michigan, at the age of 61.

Debra was a dedicated educator who touched the lives of countless students with her passion for learning and teaching. Her commitment to education was only surpassed by her devotion to her family and faith.

A woman of strong spirit and generous heart, Debra found joy and solace in her church and the harmonious melodies of gospel music. She had a zest for life that she expressed through activities such as biking and swimming, finding particular delight in her own backyard swimming pool. Her love for the sea and its guiding lights drew her to lighthouses, symbols of hope and guidance, much like Debra herself.

Debra is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Lois Stapleton. She is survived by her devoted spouse, John Poole; her cherished children, Chelsea Poole and John Poole; her father Louie Stapleton; her loving sisters, Diane (Curt) Shepherd and Melisa Jacobs; and a host of friends and extended family who will deeply miss her presence.

Debra's warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those she loved will be remembered fondly and missed greatly by all who knew her.

  • Dear Friends, if anyone knew Debbie Stapleton Poole, I am in shock to know that she just passed away on July 15, 2025. Please keep her in your prayers because she was also from SW Detroit and a teacher with the Detroit Public Schools Community District. She was my childhood friend from Amos Elementary School and Neinas Elementary School. She made it out of the hood and built a beautiful home out in the burbs. I am so proud that she made her dreams come true! Debbie Stapleton
  • Debbie was my first best friend. We grew up racing down sidewalks on our roller skates, weaving our bikes through the neighborhood, and turning up her mom's 45s for living room dancing. The giggles and fun times are memories that still make me smile. Debbie's laughter was the best, contagious, the kind that made everything lighter. Debbie showed us how to enjoy every moment and live life a little brighter. Thank you for the boundless joy and love you brought into each of our lives. Love you dearly, Angela Edmonds Angela Edmonds
