Obituary

Duane Joseph Roberts, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on September 26, 2026, in Trenton, Michigan, at the age of 90. Born on April 13, 1936, in Newport, Michigan, Duane lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and work.

Duane retired from Michigan Bell in 1991 after a long and fulfilling career. Following his retirement, he continued to contribute to his community by working at Beaumont for an additional ten years. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he was a devoted leader for the Boy Scouts, where he inspired many young men with his guidance and support.

An active member of the Eagles, Duane cherished the camaraderie and fellowship he found there. His life was enriched by these connections, and he was known for his warm spirit and generous heart.

Duane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Roberts, and his siblings Ada, Robert, Helen, Betty, Mary, and Thomas. He is survived by his children: late Mark Anthony (Alissa) Roberts, late Richard Roberts, late Caroline Roberts, Cecilia (John) Thompson, Duane (Lynda) Roberts, Jr., and Robin (Alex) Hawman.

His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Rachel, Danielle, Isaac, John Robert, Leo, Zoe, Isabelle, and Gabriel, as well as his great-grandchildren: Leah, Xander, Caspian, Gideon, Melody, and Harold. Duane is also survived by his sister, Donna Granger, who shared in the joys and challenges of life with him.

Duane will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family, his steadfast work ethic, and his commitment to his community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Condolences

  • I always enjoyed spending time with Uncle Dewey. I have great memories of weekends on his boat with all of his kids and my brothers and sisters and parents. We called his boat the shrimp boat. We would go to an island somewhere in Lake Erie and swim and grill some food. It was such a good time. Uncle Dewey had such an infectious laugh. I'll hold those memories dear. My condolences to the family....Laurie Blanton (Granger). To the Duane Roberts Sr. Family,
  • We always had so much fun on the boating trips with Uncle Dewey and Aunt Marge. I remember people skiing, doing some crazy tricks on skis. Dewey always made such delicious lasagna for the family reunion! He was a wonderful chef. You are in our prayers. God Bless you . Lisa Kean
