Obituary
Jean Audrey Szymanski, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away on January 19, 2026, in Romulus, Michigan, at the age of 87. Born on September 12, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Jean lived a life full of love, kindness, and dedication to her family.
Jean was a devoted homemaker, finding immense joy and pride in maintaining a spotless home and ensuring her family's happiness and well-being. Her family was always her number one priority, and she dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving environment for them.
A lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Jean cherished the memory of attending the 1968 World Series to witness their victory. Her love for Neil Diamond was equally profound, as she attended ten Neil Diamond concerts throughout her lifetime, reveling in the joy his music brought her.
Jean was a beautiful person inside and out. Her sweet, kind, and selfless nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Once you met Jean, you couldn't help but love her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Szymanski; her son, Jerry Szymanski; her parents, Harry Stagman and Loretta Mae Wright; and her siblings, Harry "Bud" Stagman, Sharon Rose Stagman, and Kenny Stagman.
Jean leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her children, Cindy Szymanski, Ken (Marlana Rose Cooper) Szymanski, and John Szymanski; her grandson, Jason Szymanski; her sister, Carol Bazzani; as well as family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, with a service at 6:30 PM. Interment at Michigan Memorial Park will be private. In honor of Jean’s love for the Detroit Tigers, please wear your favorite Detroit Tigers memorabilia.
