Obituary

Kathryn “Kathy” Vyse passed away surrounded by love on the morning of January 8, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Holly at the age of 92.

Born on September 7, 1933, in Wyandotte, Kathy and her younger brother, Gerald Haubrick, grew up close to their extended family, including their grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins. Raised in the Catholic faith, she attended St. Joseph’s Catholic grade school and proudly graduated from Roosevelt High School.

She was the mother of six children: Sheryl, Karen, Sandra, Thomas, Michael, Becky and her son-in-law Clifford. A fiercely resilient woman, she faced life’s challenges with determination, and her strength left a lasting impression on her family and all who knew her. Kathy was a caring grandmother to nine grandchildren: David, Robert, Michelle, Nicole, Melanie, Steven, Brandon, Tessa and Adam, one great-grandchild, Dustin, and one great-great-grandchild, Dakota. After her children were grown, she dedicated herself to supporting her family, highlighting her selfless love.

A vivacious and spirited woman, affectionately nicknamed “Chatty Kathy” for her love of conversation, she was a petite powerhouse who enjoyed her work as an independent sales representative. Known for her strong will and perfectionism, she tackled life with tenacity. Her creativity shone through her love of painting and crafts, a passion she returned to often. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed mystery and crime novels. She loved to dance, spoke her mind with humor and colorful language, and never backed down from her beliefs. Kathy brought energy, warmth and authenticity to every room she entered.

Her last years were spent at a senior apartment, where she found great companionship and loved socializing. She turned Wednesday afternoons into game night, sharing a recent birthday gift from her family with others. Always the life of the party and exceptionally giving around Christmastime. True to spirit, Kathy cracked jokes with her family and fought to the very end, a fighter in every sense of the word.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret, her brother, Gerald, her daughter Sheryl, and her grandchildren, David and Michelle, children of Sheryl.

Private family services were held at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
