Obituary
Janice Dorothy Whitman, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Troy, Michigan, at the age of 90. Born on October 24, 1935, in St. Johns, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Yolanda Kent.
Throughout her life, Janice dedicated herself to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse, bringing comfort and compassion to those in need. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life into her many creative pursuits, where her artistic talents flourished. As an accomplished quilter, she crafted over 50 beautiful quilts, each a testament to her skill and patience. Janice's love for painting, china painting, needlepoint, and crafting knew no bounds, and she graciously shared these gifts with many.
Janice found immense joy in the outdoors, particularly in gardening, where she cultivated vibrant flowers that mirrored her colorful spirit. An avid bridge player, she relished the camaraderie of friendly competition.
Above all, Janice treasured her family. She was a devoted mother to Linda (Larry) Weglicki, Peggy (Al) Eizans, Paul (Karen) Whitman, and Susanne (James) Kunst. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: David (Kathleen), Michelle, Daniel (Vita), Greg, Phillip (Ashley), Julie, Aly (Ryan), Erin (Trevor), Chris (Melissa), and Jennifer (David), as well as her great-grandchildren: Xander, Mila, Max, Trevor, Tyler, Isla, Theo, Roman, and Annika. Her brother, Jack (Ute) Kent, also survives her.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Whitman, the love of her life, with whom she now joyfully reunites for eternity.
Cremation will be conducted at "The Witness Crematory" located inside Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. Following this, inurnment will take place at Michigan Memorial Park, where Janice will find her final resting place among the beauty of nature she so dearly loved.
Janice's warmth, creativity, and love will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
